Choosing a Hosting Company

Everyone recommended Hostgator.com (aff. link), so I went and had a look, liked the deal and signed up for a reseller account at ridiculously low price (I’m used to high end dedicated servers that cost an arm and a leg). This allows me to setup multiple domains and comes with plenty of storage space and bandwidth. Far more than I’ll need in the early days.

If you don’t want a reseller account I believe they are offering alternative packages for as little as $5 per month! Not sure how they manage that but thumbs up anyway.

More importantly, with the reseller account, you get WHM and CPanel, two easy to use tools that allow you to manage your hosting account and domains without any special knowledge. I could do this part myself but it’s nice to have a simple point and click interface to do all the tedious leg-work. And everything gets organised in one place under one system.

Also provided is Fantastico Deluxe which is a script installer and a pretty good one too. I’ll go through the whole process of setting up a domain in a future post but right now I only needed WordPress so I clicked on the Fantastico icon, selected WordPress from the menu, filled in a few bits of information about the blog such as the title and hit submit. Hey Presto! A brand new blog.

If you have a little bit extra to spend you might want to consider kiosk.ws who look after the accounts of some of the bigger Internet marketers. They come highly recommended as being very receptive to online marketing operations.
